Riverside Walking Tour

August 28, 10 a.m., Riverside walking tour with Judy Bentley and Frank Zuvela

Walk the old neighborhood of Riverside on the northwest side of the Duwamish River, settled by Croatian immigrants in the early 1900’s. Richard Hugo wrote of his fascination with this community of fishermen in The Real West Marginal Way. They formed a multi-ethnic neighborhood of European immigrants where Duwamish camps and longhouses had once been. As the Duwamish River was straightened and dredged, they co-existed with manufacturing and shipbuilding. The tour is sponsored by the Southwest Seattle Historical Society and will be led by first-generation resident Frank Zuvela. A donation of $5 is requested: $3 from SWSHS members.

Directions: From the stoplight at Spokane Street and Delridge Way, take W. Marginal Way east. After it curves under the low bridge over the Duwamish River, take the first right and park in the parking area to the north at the end of 16th Ave. S.W.
